There is no designated locked room for your luggage but you are welcome to use our storage/garbage room downstairs to store your belongings before or after your arrival. Please note that the storage room is not locked and we do not take responsibility for luggage kept there, but the front door is always locked.

The garbage bins are located inside the building on the ground floor, in the storage/garbage room, next to the entrance.

Please sort the garbage into these categories: paper & plastic, general waste, cans & bottles.

You are welcome to use the shared washing machine and dryer, located between the two apartments.

If you don’t want people from the other apartment to enter your apartment, please make sure you lock your door to the laundry room, as there are entrances to both apartments there.

Please do not use the washing machine or the dryer before 9 o’clock in the morning and after 10 o’clock (22:00) in the evening.

To turn the washing machine on/off, push the power button. Choose a program by rotating the large rounded button. 30°C is approximately 85°F and 40-60°C is 104-140°F.

Open the drawer on the left of the rounded button and insert the washing liquid in the compartment on the left side of the drawer.

Push the button with the “start/pause” symbol to start your chosen washing program.

To turn the tumble dryer on/off, push the power button. Choose a program by rotating the large rounded button. Push the button with the “start/pause” symbol to start your chosen drying program.

If you can’t open the dryer door, and you see a key symbol appear on the display, the baby lock is on. To deactivate the child lock, touch and hold down the 2 buttons that have a key symbol below, at the same time, until the symbol disappears on the display screen.

After drying, please open the water container on the left of the rounded button and empty it.

Also, please clean the filter inside the dryer.

The power button is on the left side of the machine, close to the kitchen counter (almost at the bottom of the machine). After turning on the coffee machine, it is ready for use. We leave the water tank filled with water and coffee beans.

The button on the right is a rotary knob for coffee selection and an action button, when pushed on. The button on the left is a rotary knob for adjusting water volume and a button to adjust the strength of the coffee.

In heavy use, the tray under the coffee basket needs to be emptied, automatic messages appear on the screen when needed. The machine automatically cleans itself in between.

Please use the dishwasher tablets ONLY, you will find them in the drawer under the kitchen sink.

How to use the dishwasher: Press the ON button, then select the program you want to use. We recommend using the Auto program or the Eco program. Press the program button and close the door. The program will start automatically when you close the door.

When the washing system is completed, the door opens automatically and remains slightly

open so that the tableware dries sooner.

Floor light indicates how much of the washing system is left and a low beep sounds when the washing system is finished.

Turn the microwave on (and off) by touching the small power sign, on the left side of the large rotation button. Rotate the large button clockwise or counterclockwise to select the menu option + microwave quick start and press to move to the submenu or accept the setting.

To go back one level in the menu, touch the arrow sign, on the right side of the rotation button. Hold it in for 3 sec to show the main menu.

Turn on the hob/stove by holding down the on/off button for 4 seconds. Then select the burner you are going to use. Use the + (plus) & - (minus) buttons to increase and decrease the temperature.

When the hob is switched on, the selected area heats up as soon as you put a pot/pan on it.

To activate/deactivate the child lock, press and hold the lock key for three seconds.

A sensor automatically shuts off the hob if it boils over the control panel.

Please remember to turn the hob off after using it.

Turn the oven on (and off) by touching the small power sign, on the left side of the large rotation button. Rotate the large button clockwise or counterclockwise to select the menu option and press to move to the submenu or accept the setting.

In one of the drawers in the kitchen you’ll find a regular water kettle.

Please do NOT use the kettle for anything else than water.

There is a toaster on the kitchen counter that takes 4 slices of bread at a time (2+2).
You can choose the desired toasting time with the rounded knob on the side.

You can also defrost and stop the toaster any time you want, with the buttons and handles on the side.

Before checking out, please wash your dishes and take out the trash.

Check-out is no later than 11:00 (11 AM).

In case you are leaving the island later you can store your luggage in the storage room on the ground floor, which is located next to the entrance door. Please note that the storage room is not locked and we do not take responsibility for luggage kept there.

Outside regular office hours, you can find additional toilet paper, trash bags and towels in the shared washing room. The additional items are stored in the shelves under the sink.

For any other items needed, please contact our service staff.

If you want to check in earlier or check out later, this is possible in some cases for a small fee. Please contact us to get more information.

If the fire alarm goes off, please contact us (see contact info on top of this page).

The heating in the apartment is floor heating, controlled with a control panel in every room.

The control panel is located next to the entrance of the bedrooms and next to the bathroom.

Touch the screen to see current temperature and control arrows. Touch the up arrow, above the temperature to increase the heat and the down arrow below the temperature to decrease it.

20-23°C is usually a good temperature for floor heating, depending on the season. That is approximately 68-73 °F.

In Iceland we have the standard Europlug, a flat, two-pole, round-pin domestic AC power plug, rated for voltages up to 250 V and currents up to 2.5 A.

For these plugs, you can use adapter types “C” or “F”. These are often labeled as a Northern Europe adapter.

95% of all water in Iceland comes from springs in the ground, so it never comes in touch with any pollution. Unlike in many neighboring countries, the Icelandic water is free of chlorine, calcium and nitrate. It contains sulfur, which sometimes gives an egg smell when you use the hot water.

The quality of tap water in Reykjavík is well monitored, so you are not to worry about drinking directly from the tap, as Icelandic water is one of the purest water you’ll find in the world.

Alcohol is quite expensive in Iceland and can only be bought at state run stores called Vínbúðin. The DutyFree store at the airport is a lot cheaper (you will see all the Icelanders go straight there). If you plan on purchasing alcohol, we recommend doing that before picking up your bags at the airport.

Don’t be fooled by the “beer” you see at local supermarkets. Those are light beers with only 0-2% alcohol.

People under the age of 20 are not allowed to buy alcohol of any kind in Iceland.

Just a kind reminder: No parties are allowed at the apartment.

There are 2 grocery stores in Vestmannaeyjar, located close to each other, Krónan and Bónus. Both are fairly low-priced (compared to other stores in Iceland).
