Kindly note that we do not take responsibility for your belongings.

Please do not leave any valuables in there, as all the guests have access to the storage.

Trash is sorted in the main entrance of the building into plastics, general waste and paper. Please use this sorting system as we recycle.

There is a washer and a dryer between 2nd and 3rd floor and also between 3rd and 4th floor. Kindly feel free to use it.

Please let us know if the detergent is missing, as we provide this. Sometimes previous guests finish it without notifying us.

Add washing liquid in the compartment on the left side of the drawer. Turn the machine on with the On/Off button, choose a program by rotating the large rounded button and push the button with “start/pause” symbols to start the your chosen washing program.

30°C is approximately 85°F and 40-60°C is 104-140°F.

“Bomull” means cotton, “Syntet” means delicate and “Snabb” means quick wash.

Turn the dryer on with the “On/Off” button. Choose a program by rotating the large rounded button. Push the “Start/Pause” button to start your chosen drying program.

After drying, please open the water container on the left and empty it. Also, please clean the filter inside the dryer.

The coffee maker in your apartment is a French press pot.

To make coffee, you take the lid/plunger out and add 2 tablespoons of coffee at the bottom of the French press. Heat water in the kettle and pour the hot water (not quite boiling) into the pot, almost filling it. Stir gently. Put the plunger in place, but do not press the filter down yet. Leave it under the lid for 2-4 minutes, then hold the handle and slowly press the plunger down. If the plunger becomes difficult to push down, remove it from the pot, and then slowly plunge down again vertically.

If you have a sleeping sofa, here are some instructions for it.

There are different types of sofas in ICA, so please see the different instructions below:

If you have a brown/beige sleeping sofa:

If you need to open the sleeping sofa, here is a video with instructions on how to do that.
You need to pull the string on the back of the sofa forward, until the bed is open and the mattress is fully flattened out.

If you need to close the sleeping sofa, here is a video with instructions on how to do that.
You need to make sure the mattress is placed within the mattress frame before closing it. If you have any issues closing the sofa, it is possible that you need to pull the mattress towards you before trying to close it again.

If you have a (dark) grey sleeping sofa:

If you need to open the sleeping sofa, here is a video with instructions on how to do that.

Pull the seat up, to an upright position, push the seat further from you so it makes a “click” sound. Then when it’s “loose” you can pull it back down and the sofa will now be ready to sleep on.

Video.

If you need to close the sleeping sofa, pull the seat up again, to an upright position, until it makes a “click” sound. Then it should have locked into a seating position.

Pull the seat down again towards you and the back of the sofa should now be in an upright position.

There is a microwave in the apartment for you to use. If you have any problems with how it works, please contact us and let us know what type of microwave is in your apartment.

If you need to use the stove but it does not work, kindly check the fuse box at the entrance of your apartment and turn it up.

If it still doesn't work and there is a red “LO” light on it, the child safety lock is on. Press the key icon and hold it for 3 seconds to open the lock. The LO light should disappear and you can now use the hob.

Please watch this video:

There is a regular water kettle on the kitchen counter.

Please do NOT use the kettle for anything else than water.

Inside the cupboards you will find cooking utensils and tableware.

If you have a problem finding the cutlery, please open the top drawer and inside that drawer there is a smaller drawer inside (on top). You have to open that also to find the cutlery.

Please keep in mind that the hot water from the shower might smell a bit weird. This is because of the sulfur in the water, as the water comes straight from the ground. You will notice this when traveling in Iceland, as the geothermal water all around the country smells.

Check-out is at 10:00 / 10AM.

Please wash the dirty dishes, glasses and cutlery.

In case you are leaving later you are welcome to use our luggage storage. Please see more information about the storage under “Luggage storage” further up in the Property guide.

Make sure to lock the door, leave the key in the key box and take everything with you when checking out.

Please consider other guests when checking out early.

You can find some extra things, such as toilet paper and linen, in the luggage room on the ground floor. In order to open it, there is a key box with a key inside. Please contact us to get a code to access.

Kindly return the key.

If you want to check in earlier or check out later, this is possible in some cases for a small fee. Please contact us to get more information.

If the Fire alarm starts ringing, please follow these instructions:

– Make sure there is no fire. If there is a fire, please leave the premises and call 112 (emergency services).

– If there is no fire, kindly follow the instructions on the red fire alarm sticker (which should be located by the entrance).

After this, please Press Endursetning (reset) and then Stöðva vælu 1 (stop beeping)

If you have any problems stopping the alarm, please contact us.

Most of Iceland’s houses are heated by geothermal water. The water runs through the radiators heating up the cast iron and warming up the place.

To adjust the settings of a radiator you must turn the knob to a higher or lower setting. The knob is usually located on either side of the radiator.

Note that it takes a little while for the radiators to get hot so don’t put them on full blast just yet. In fact, setting it to 2-3 is usually enough for a radiator that goes up to 5. For a radiator that goes up to 8 the normal setting is about 4-5. Adjusting the setting any higher can lead to rooms getting steamy and the radiators to start emitting heat smell.

In Iceland we have the standard Europlug, a flat, two-pole, round-pin domestic AC power plug, rated for voltages up to 250 V and currents up to 2.5 A.

For these plugs, you can use adapter types “C” or “F”. These are often labeled as a Northern Europe adapter.

95% of all water in Iceland comes from springs in the ground, so it never comes in touch with any pollution. Unlike in many neighboring countries, the Icelandic water is free of chlorine, calcium and nitrate. It contains sulfur, which sometimes gives an egg smell when you use the hot water.

The quality of tap water in Reykjavík is well monitored, so you are not to worry about drinking directly from the tap, as Icelandic water is one of the purest water you’ll find in the world.

Alcohol is quite expensive in Iceland and can only be bought at state run stores called Vínbúðin. The DutyFree store at the airport is a lot cheaper (you will see all the Icelanders go straight there). If you plan on purchasing alcohol, we recommend doing that before picking up your bags at the airport.

Don’t be fooled by the “beer” you see at local supermarkets. Those are light beers with only 0-2% alcohol.

People under the age of 20 are not allowed to buy alcohol of any kind in Iceland.

Just a kind reminder: No parties are allowed at the apartment.

There are 2 grocery stores in Vestmannaeyjar, located close to each other, Krónan and Bónus. Both are fairly low-priced (compared to other stores in Iceland).
